Ashmore, a parish in the hundred of Cranborne in the Shaston (west) division of the county of Dorset, 5 miles southeast of Shaftesbury (Topographical Dictionary of England, Lewis, Vol. 1, p. 52) ... only 1.86 mi. west of Tollard Royal, Wilts; 2.56 mi. southeast of Compton Abbas; and 4.97 east of East Orchard and 6.39 southwest of Swallowcliffe, Wilts.
