Berkhamstead, a parish in the hundred of [not yet extraced], county of Hertford, is less than a mile east of Northchurch, Herts; and only 2.24 miles southwest of Nettleden, Bucks. It is 4.62 miles northwest of Bovingdon, Herts (in the parish of Hemel Hempstead); 4.16 miles southeast of Tring, Herts; 4.52 miles northeast of Chesham, Bucks; 5 miles southwest of Dagnell, Bucks and 5 miles northwest of Hemel Hempstead, Herts.
Although no Combs of Berkhamstead are mentioned in the Herts Visitations, their near relatives the Waterhouse family, are found in Berkhamstead:

John WATERHOUSE (son of John WATERHOUSE (descended from WATERHOUSE of Ludlow, Salop and Anne SPARKE of London) was the brother of Agnes WATERHOUSE who married Robert COMBE, father of Richard COMBE of nearby Hemel Hempstead, Herts. The Visitations list John WATERHOUSE of Whitchurch, Bucks* (husband of Margaret TURNER of Blunt's Hall, Essex), who "lyeth bur. at Berkhampsted" and his son, "John WATERHOUSE of Whitchurch, buried at Berkhampsted" (husband of Ann BIRKENHED of Huxley, Chester.

*Whitchurch, Bucks is 3.72 miles east of Quainton, Bucks (Lovett, Piggot, Fleetwood, Dormer Families).
