27 Dec 1840 (Spencer Co IN Marriage Records) COMBS, William & McINTIRE, Rebecca.

Combs Researcher Sally Stacy's Notes: William COMBS, b.@1819 in IN, d. 23 Mar 1890 in IN(?), occupation, schoolteacher; m. 27 Dec 1840 in (Spencer) IN, Rebecca McINTIRE b. 05 Dec 1817, (Washington) PA d. 01 Feb, 1915, Canby (Clackamas), OR. BOYLES Lived in Dexter, Stoddard Co, MO in 1915; Thomas Berryman b. 1848 (Spencer), IN Lived in (Marion), OR @ 1902, d. 05 July 1914 (Marion), OR; Daughter m. D.M. CALVIN. Lived in Goldendale, WA in 1915; John L. b. 1858 in IN. d.19 July, 1931 in ID, Buried in Canby (Clackamas Co), OR, m. 09 Aug, 1878, Sophia WEISSINGER (prob. Posey or Warrick Co), IN, Dtr of Godfrey and Lucretia ROBINSON Weissinger. In Centreville (Washington Co) PA around the time of Rebecca McINTIRE Combs' birth, there was a pastor, John McINTIRE of the M.E. church. Rebecca's obituary said she was a life-long member of this church. One of their sons has, as one of his names (I've seen it both ways), the name Berryman. I have seen this name in some Combs lines, but haven't connected it yet. There was a Berriman Combs in Spencer Co., IN at the same time as William, but relationship, although probable, not known. The 1880 Spencer Co IN Census indicates both William COMBS' parents were born in KY. See Neal G. COMBS, b 1845, d 1855, buried by Berryman and Sarah (COLE?) Combs in Adyveville, Perry Co, IN Cemetery.

11 May 1848 (Spencer Co IN Marriage Records) COMBS, Wilmoth & JACKSON, Elisha

Notes: The given name Wilmoth was common to the descendants of Mason COMBS, Sr. of Stafford Co VA & Surry Co NC, the first known Wilmouth (also a.k.a. Wilmot) COMBS in the Colonies being his daughter, b 05 Oct 1751 in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co VA. This given name is also found in Lincoln Co KY and Perry Co KY.

31 Jul 1842 (Spencer Co IN Marriage Records) COMBS, Lucinda & ANDERSON, Howell

Note: Based on the 1850 Spencer census, Lucinda was probably the widow of Henry Combs (neè either OSBORN or JEFFERS?)

14 Dec 1845 (Spencer Co IN Marriage Records) COMBS, Lucinda & NILES, Franklin N.

Notes: Might Niel, s/o William and Rebecca McINTYRE, have been aka Niles after Franklin N.?

Notes: Samuel B. COMBS is not on 1840 Spencer census index; however, if he is Samuel Brown COMBS, he was a resident of Spencer by 1837, with land adjacent to that of the Berryman COMBS families (He was apparently somewhere in Indiana by 1836 based on birth of Sarah E. above). Note that Cal E. (Calvin?) and William are listed "out of age order." Because they were not children of Samuel and Mary? Or because they were adults (census takers varied on this). Note that Thomas J. (next) was also a Cooper (barrel or cask maker). Was he s/o Samuel B. and Mary A.? No Indiana marriage has been found for a Samuel and Mary (or Polly). No Samuel B. found on 1840, but Samuel (NMI) Combs were in Delaware and Jackson Counties that year. Samuel of Delaware was still in that county in 1850, but Samuel of Jackson is missing in 1850. Also note that the 1840 Spencer census records may disclose that Samuel B. was in the household of another.

One child per wife? Henry not found on 1840 census in Spencer. Did he die that year? Of the ANDERSON children above, all but Louisa and Nathan were probably Howell's children by an earlier spouse. Notes: No Indiana marriage record has been located for Berryman Combs, but see the 21 Sep 1811, Mercer Co, KY marriage of Berryman Combs & Sarah COLE, and note that the above Berryman and Sarah would have been 23 and 20 years of age respectively at that time. Berryman is not found on the 1820 Mercer Co, KY census index (nor any other), and the next record of any Berryman COMBS is not found until the 1830 Spencer Co, IN census. Berryman as a given name is also found in Indiana in Greene Co, and Jeremiah is a common given name among those families, but not yet known if significant. Also note the PORTER children and see the 17 Dec 1835 Spencer marriage of John and Elizabeth COMBS Porter. Were the above Berryman's grandchildren?
