Feb 1930 Obituary of Samuel Coombs transcribed by Deb Coombs from newspaper clipping

    Judge Samuel Coombs
The life of Judge Samuel Coombs came in an end last Thursday morning after an acute illness of but a week, although for some time he had been in poor health due to heart trouble.
Judge Coombs came to Carroll county in 1876 from Hardin where he was born in 1851. A number of years ago he retired from active farm life in which he had been very successful and came to Carrollton to make his home.
Twelve or thirteen years ago Judge Coombs was elected County Judge of Carroll county in which capacity he served the people well for four years.
On August 12, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Eveline Mitchell. To their union were born nine children of these two preceded their parents in death--Otis, who died in 1903 aged seven years, and Mrs. Mattie Carlisle who died in 1908. The surviving children are Mrs. T. A. Cantrill of Bedford; Marcellus, Charles L., William Orville and John H., of Carroll county, and Samuel Forest of Phoenix, Arizona.
Four years ago Judge Cooms was united in Marriage to Mrs. Eva Lee Dunn, who survives him.
Judge Cooms was a good, honorable and upright citizen. He was the last charter member of the Mound Hill Christian church to which he meant much both as an officer and contributor. Even after coming to Carrollton he remained a regular attendant at this church unless detained by illness. He was a devoted husband and father and splendid neighbor and friend and was held in the highest esteem by all friends and associates. Judge Coombs was a director in the Carrollton National Bank, which institution was closed during the hours of his funeral services Saturday afternnon which were held at the local Christian church conducted by Rev. R. T. Chatham.
