Many of the Hardin Co., KY Combs families were of or related to the Tonolloways group. The earliest Combs of Hardin Co., KY were recorded here long before Hardin's existence, with Jesse Combs having obtained a survey on 14 Aug 1786, at which time his 510 acres was in Jefferson County (then VA), and later in Nelson, his land described as being "510 acres on the waters of Greene River Severns Valley adj. John WARFORD* and Thomas HELM." (KY Grants 5:318). This was apparently Jesse, son of Joseph Combs, died 1803, Gorges Twp., Fayette Co., PA, based on later Hardin tax records.

15 Dec 1800 Nicholas BRASHEAR Apprs. Adam Combs, John THOMAS, and Asa KELLAM
5 Oct 1803 Nicholas BRASHEAR Inventory, Apprs. Thomas A. COOMBS and Isaac HODGENS
Notes: Adam Combs above is probably aka Adin Combs/Coombs. Thomas A. Coombs above is probably aka Thomas H. Coombs the son of Amos Coombs, brother to Adin. However, see also Combs/Brashear in Nelson Co., KY, Sullivan Co, TN and see also the "mystery" Adam Combs of Hampshire Co., VA. Is it possible that Adam and Thomas were relatives of Nicholas Brashear.1803 Hardin Co., KY Tax Lists (Additional entries transcribed by Combs Researcher Carolyn Wimp):

Notes: (1) According to Combs Researcher Barbara Stacy Mathews,John STACY (son of Benjamin & Ann Combs Stacy, Sr.) married Lucy SKAGGS, a daughter of Henry SKAGGS, who died testate 1810, Green Co., KY w/John on the 1800 Green Co., KY tax list. (2) Both Adin and Samuel Combs were born pre-1765 per their burial records (Red Mills Cem., Hardin), and are Adin, Sr. and Samuel, Jr., son of Samuel and Mary WILKES Combs, Sr. of Loudoun Co, VA and Nelson Co, KY. (3) Based on Pulaski Co., KY records, Jesse Combs who married 1793, Halifax Co., VA, Judith "Judah" Combs (daughter of George & Phoebe Combs), was residing in Hardin Co., KY in 1816 (see below), but the above Jesse DODSON, b 1784-1794 would have been too young to have been that Jesse DODSON. See 1816 notes below.Notes: Amos Combs died between 1817 when he was taxed for 190 acres and 14 Dec 1818 when Jonathan Shepard sold land to the heirs of Amos (see below.) In 1819, his widow, Tacy (DRAKE) Coombs, was taxed for 165 acres (the remaining 35 acres?) Also note the above 396 acres on Rolling Fork. Was this land, too, in Hardin? Was this the same land that Edward Combs of Nelson Co., KY with the following land grants from 1783? See the following:
