SE Note: These four parcels of land on Eagle Creek, one in Mason and three in Jefferson Co., Ky., were entered, surveyed, and patented in the name of J. [likely Joseph] Combs. They might be part of a 4200a Virginia grant for Kentucky land listed as being inFayette Co., on Eagle Creek and Licking, dated 28 Feb. 1785, for one Joseph Combs, Book 9, p. 468 (The Kentucky Land Grants, Jillson, 1971 (1 Volume in 2 Parts), Part I, Virginia Grants, p. 39)). It is the only grant that I see in Jillson that is for Combs land on Eagle Creek. According to Jillson, Virginia grants were issued by said state based upon "warrants given in some cases as consideration for military service in the French and Indian war, and later in the Revolution" (p.6-7). An entry for the same grant is also found in Jillson's Old Kentucky Entries and Deeds, 1969, under Fayette entries, p. 87). This entry for 4200a for Joseph Combs was dated 1 April 1783, land shown as being on Eagle Cr., and surveyed under the "notes" column. The second parcel listed in the above 1799 entry may be the same as the 750a on Salt River that is listed in 1797.
