Notes: James Combs has not been identified, but may have been a son of Stephen & Barbara ALLEN Combs of Loudoun Co., VA and Lincoln Co., KY (See below). Another possibility is that either or both James Combs and Matilda SMITH were somehow kin to Rev. Richard & Elitia Combs Smith of Clay Co., KY.

02 Nov 1845 (Washington County KY Book H p. 249) Will of John Combs. … I desire a Christian burial and then the following. Thank God I owe no money and having lived with my son-in-law and daughter Joseph GOODE and Nancy GOODE I claim nothing in the way of accounts and otherwise it is my wish and desire that they have each and every item of property that I own after defraying the expenses of my burial. I also appoint my son-in-law Joseph GOODE as my exector [sic]. Given under my hand this 2nd day of November 1845. John Combs

for said county, duly authorised by Law, to administer Oaths personally appeared Joseph C [sic] GOOD and made oath in due form of Law that he is the administrator of John Combs Deceased, the identical person who was a pensioner and now dead, and to whom a certificate of Pension was paid which is herewith surrendered that the deceased Pensioner resided in Washington County in the state of Kentucky for the space of 10 years and previous thereto he resided in Clay County Kentucky. Sworn to and subscribed this ___ day of June 1848 before me Robert S MITCHELL JP. Signed Joseph (X) C GOODE. Witness John M SMITH.
