J. Elmer COMBS, 84, retired carpenter, died in his home, 405 Baltimore St., at 6:40 p.m., Tuesday.

Mr. COMBS had been in failing health for some time but was not bedfast until five weeks ago. Born in Washington C.H., O. [Washington Court House, Fayette Co, OH], he was a resident of this city for 45 years, working at the carpenter trade until his retirement two years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Rosetta; three sons, Carl, mail carrier, Clyde and Leslie, all of Middletown; nine grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren.

The Rev. E. R. TURNER will conduct services at 2 p.m. Friday in the United Brethren Church where Mr. Combs was a member since coming to Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery. Friends may call at the McCoy - Leffler Funeral Home from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday.

January 22, 1950 Middletown Journal, Mrs. Rose COMBS, Charter War Mother President Dies.

Mrs. Rose Etta COMBS, 84 of 411 Young Street, first presdient of the Middletown Chapter of War Mothers, died at 2:45 p.m. yesterday at Middletown Hospital. The Middletown Chapter of War Mothers was the first one in Ohio. She was an active member of the WCTU and of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Survivors include three sons, Carl of Oakdale, Calif., Clyde and Leslie both of Middletown; five sisters, Mrs. Willa HOPPER of Washington Court House, Mrs. Mary DUVALL, Mrs. R.C. STEWART, Mrs. Eunice PNEIVIT, and Mrs. Bessie JOHNSON, all of Middletown and a brother, Charles SHIRER of Middletown.

Services will be conducted at the First Evangelical United Brethren Church Wednesday at 2 p.m., where the body will be taken at 12:30 p.m. The officiant will be Dr. E. R. TURNER with burial in Middletown Cemetery.

Friends may call at the McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home Monday from 7-10 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-10 p.m.
