SE Notes: James enumerated as being the head of the entire family for three households (#280, 281, 282). This family previously found in the 1870 Wood Co and the 1850 Taylor Co census. Son Mathew eventually died from the gunshot wound. He appears to be James Combs of Hampshire Co, Virginia, who married Susan CORBIN on 17 Oct 1838 (Hampshire Co marriage records)? See also Wood and Taylor County records. James A Combs died 16 Feb. 1902 in Pleasants Co, WV. James A is found living with his son James B in the 1900 Pleasants Co, WV census. His son James B Combs died 17 Feb. 1929 in Pleasants Co. where his death record states he was born 5 Sept. 1848 and that his parents were James Anison Combs and Susanna CORBIN.

See 1850 Washington Co, OH census, Wood Co, WV records, and the James Combs Family Archives, where she is referred to as Aunt Sarah Combs aka Aunt Sarah SQUIRES in family letters and diaries. Israel B Squires, age 67, son of Thos and Mary Squires, died 15 March 1898 in Clarksburg, Harrison Co, WVA (WVA archives digital death records). Sarah SQUIRES, age 51, widowed, is found in the 1900 Harrison Co, WVA census showing she was born in Ohio, her father born in NJ, and her mother born in PA.
