1790 (Fauquier Co, VA DB10:373 & 375) Joseph COMBS of Loudoun Co, VA to Robert ASHBY alias Combs, 158 a. and to Henry WASHINGTON of Prince William adj. 163 a.

(Extracted by Combs Researcher Jeff Duvall from Fauquier Families, 1759-1799: Comprehensive indexed abstracts of Tax and Tithable Lists, Marriage Bonds and Minute, Deed, and Will Books, and Others by John P. Alcock (Athens, GA: Iberian Publishing Company, 1994))

Note: See 1758 Frederick Co, VA Record re Joseph Combs (II) "cohabitating in fornification with Sarah ASHBY. That record and the above are probably the basis for the belief that Joseph had a "natural son" named Robert. Based on his place of birth and earlier residences, this would appear to have probably been RW Robert Combs who was born in and resided in the same counties (Frederick and Loudoun) as Joseph Combs II until his move to Fauquier.

1790 (Fauquier Co., VA Deed Book 10, pp. 373 & 375) Joseph COMBS and wife Elizabeth, of Loudoun County, sell 265 acres on Dorrells Run to Joseph COMBS, Jr. of Stafford County.

SE Note: I do not seem to have a List C or else there were no Combs &c on the list. I made no note on my abstracts. Also, the abstracts stop in my records at 1790 although my notes indicate the film covered years 1782-1796. I may have just stopped abstracting since my focus at the time was on other families.

abt 1811 Fauquier Co, VA. Born: William H. COMBS (1880 Jackson County, WV census)

Notes: According to some past researchers (seeking original source), the above William Henry Combs was the s/o a William Henry Harrison Combs, a printer, of Fauquier Co, VA. The 1880 Jackson Co, WV Census also lists William Henry's wife, Sarah, b abt 1817, as having been b in Fauquier, and these same researchers identify her as neè FLOWEREE. This William Henry Harrison Combs is thought to have possibly have also been the father of John Joseph Combs, printer, of Romney, Hampshire Co, VA (WV). Thus far, no record of any William Henry Harrison Combs has been located in Fauquier (or anywhere else). The only William Combs found in Fauquier Co, VA during this time period is the following.

(Extracted by Combs Researcher Judi Stull from Fauquier County, Virginia Marriage Bonds: 1759-1854 & Marriage Returns: 1785-1848 by John K. Gott).

Note: A second transcription shows that the bondsman was David Combs, but does not list David WICKLIFFE, but was probably a typo.

Notes: William Rousseau Combs was the s/o Ennis & Margaret ROUSSEAU Combs. See Also Combs-Wickliffe Family Bible. Also note that William and Sarah named a son, David Wickliffe Combs.

Elijah THORNBERRY; and William PAYNE. The Payne book, which I have not read, also mentions that Helen had a sister Mrs. CALAMORE. I wonder if she was meant to be CUMMINS and misread? Susannah ROUSSEAU Payne's sister, Margaret, married Ennis Combs."
