(The said Mary being one of the daughters of Thomas ARCHDALE of Chepping Wiccombe, co. Bucks., Esq., by Mary his wife deceased, who was one of the daughters of John NEVILL late of London, Esq., deceased about 30 years since, Richard ARCHDALE late of Cheppinge Wiccomb, Esq., deceased in consideration of a marriage shortly to be had between the said Thomas and Mary (NEVILL) the said John NEVILL being seised of divers messuages in London, and Manors and lands elsewhere The said John NEVILL and Richard ARCHDALE not long after died and Thomas the complainant Mary's father, entered upon the estates so conveyed by his father and by NEVILL. St. Giles in the Fields, Westminster (1.68 due west of city centre), parishes of St. Anne Soho and St. James (created from portions formerly part of St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster. "... In 1685, the population in Spitalfields and St. Giles' was much increased by the settlement of French Protestant manufacturers, who had left their native country in consequence of the revocation of the edict of Nantes; and the same year, the western suburbs increasing, two new parishes were formed, namely, those of St. Anne, Soho, and St. James, both which were previously parts of the parish of St. Martin in the Fields..."
