Notes: According to The Combes Genealogy, Millie Combs (daughter of Jeremiah "Long" and Nancy Combs) had a natural son, John Wesley Combs, by Andrew Combs (son of Jeremiah C. "Chunky" and Syntha SUMNER Combs). One Wesley Combs married Marian (a.k.a. MaryAnn, a.k.a. Polly?) PATTON according to 12 Oct 1857, Perry Co., KY Records). According to descendant Linda Jones, John Wesley Combs d. 1865. He served in the Civil Way in Company C of the 13th Kentucky Cavalry, was captured in July , 1863 and released at the end of the war.He died of malnutrition soon after reaching home. He is buried at the Wiley Combs Family cemetery in Emmalena (Knott Co., KY) about the old house.

The Combes Genealogy lists their children as Judge Wiley A. of Knott Co., KY, John S., and Jeremiah "Ram Jerry;" and Millie "died young. "This family not found in 1860, although the 1860 Perry Co., KY Census, HH 392-390, does list a Wm. [sic] Combs, age 24, with Polly, 20, Jer., age 2, and Andrew, 10 months (and two JENTS). COMBS and Margaret COMBS, per the 1861 Perry Co. Deed, selling her interest of her father's estate. Fielden & Scytha [sic] are found later on the 1910 Knott Co., Ky Census, with Fielden listed as born in 1839. Still looking for the identity of this Fielding. Some possibilies are: 1) Fielding COMBS, born ca 1843, the son of Jeremiah L. & Sallie KELLEY Combs, of the 1850 Perry Co., KY Census and possibly in 1860 as "Felix" (2) Fielding COMBS, born ca 1844, the son of Biram and Hannah OWENS Combs of Letcher (3) Fielding, born ca 1843, died 1914, Jefferson Co., KY (4) Fielden born ca 1839 died 1915 Knott Co., KY .

Could this have been Hezekiah (a.k.a. Hysekiah), born ca 1824, son of Margaret Combs, daughter of RW John Combs of Perry KY? Melda may be the daughter of John L. and Polly COMBS/MOSELY. She is listed as a sister to Susan and Polly COMBS on the 1900 Knott Co., Ky Census. Shadrick COMBS' son?, Shadrick (see below), is listed with Hezekiah and Melda on the 1880 Perry Co., Ky Census.

Shade is also listed in the 1860 Perry Co., KY Census HH 393-391 and his mother Polly is listed age 54. Is the 1861 Perry Co. marriage between Shadrick COMBS and Rhana [sic] SALYER, and signed by the above Hezeriah [sic] COMBS, a first marriage for this Shadrick? Are the "out of age order" children, Sinda (Lucinda?), Shadrach and Dorcas children from this possible 1st marriage? Dorcas was Shade's daughter per the 1880 Perry Co., KY Census. Shadrach, age16, is living with Hezekiah and Melda COMBS in 1880. Notes: Granville P. Combs was the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Combs Combs and grandson of Nicholas & Nancy GRIGSBY Combs, Sr. "Alay" was Alice "Alsey" "Dutch" Combs, daughter of Jesse and Polly BOWLING Combs and grandaughter of Elijah and Sarah ROARK Combs. Alice married (1) Joseph DAVIDSON, and (2) Granville P. Combs (widower of Miranda BRASHEAR). She is the mother of Ira J. DAVIDSON living above in the household of his maternal grandfather. Also listed in the household of Granville and Alcie Combs (Davidson) Combs is Mary, age 18. Was she Polly Ann Combs, born 18 Jan 1852, daughter of Granville and Miranda, or was she Mary DAVIDSON, the daughter of Alcy and Joseph DAVIDSON. Combs Researcher Marilyn Hansen notes that she believes, but has not yet been able to prove, that Mary DAVIDSON is the "Aunt Mary Combs" who is listed several times in the book, History of Perry Co. Alcie Combs is Marilyn's great great great grandmother, another of her daughters being Sarah DAVIDSON, married Edward POLLY, parents of grandmother Alice "Alcie" Polly MORRIS of Hazard, Ky. Granville, Alcie, and many of their descendents are buried in the Combs Cemetery, Combs, Ky. This cemetery sits on what was the original home place of Granville, and is quite large. See Also 1914 Perry Co., KY obituary and Death Certificate of Alcy Combs Davidson Combs. Also note that Robert, age 8 in 1850 and age 18 in 1860 is apparently missing from this census and Granville has named (another?) son, Robert. Did the earlier Robert die, or marry/move?

Notes: Jackson Combs was the son of Biram Combs Jr. (See 1858 deed wherein Jackson Combs sold 1/2 his interest in 200a on Carrs Fork that he inherited from his father). Listing Wm.'s daughter Isabel as a SUMNER is an error. She was married to William HAMMON (see 1868 deed). Daughters Clarinda and Dulcena have married since the 1868 deed. This indenture was dated 1874 but the recording date was 1873, obviously an error in one of those dates. Again the Clerk erred on the initial for William showing "S" but he did get closer since "L" and "S" are often very difficult to differentiate.
